Systematization of musical phenomena and meanings is a constant concern of musicology, stretching from the origins of music theory to the turning points in the tradition of the twentieth through the twenty-first century. The international conference of musicologists “Typologies of Musical Significations: A Retrospective and Prospects,” held at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, encouraged discussions about the theoretical and practical discourses of the interaction between signification and typology.
